Years ago: A young woman, Kwannon, is trained by a hooded mentor who teaches her the harsh philosophy of achieving balance through violence. The mentor tells Kwannon she will become an enemy of peace and transforms her from a "caterpillar" into a "butterfly." In a particularly traumatic moment, Kwannon is forced to endure the pain of losing her child to harden her resolve, reinforcing her future identity as a weapon and a bringer of "mercy" through violence. The present: A girl boards a subway train, connects tech to her face, and experiences a violent transformation, leading to her attacking passengers and derailing the train. Kwannon, now known as Psylocke, reflects on her past and her lost identity. She lives on Krakoa, struggling with the island's peacefulness, and receives a vision instructing her to kill Apoth, a god-like enemy. Seeking clarity, she consults Magneto, who denies her request to leave Krakoa but covertly directs her to Mr. Sinister, who grants her passage. Psylocke recruits X-23 and Cable for a mission to stop Apoth. Psylocke and X-23 travel to Tokyo, uncovering a black market tech operation linked to Apoth and a video showing the girl on the subway. Psylocke, driven by memories of her lost child, aggressively seeks information, leading them to a barn where children are used in Apoth’s scheme. The confrontation reveals Apoth’s presence in one child, who taunts Psylocke and Laura before dying. Psylocke returns to Mr. Sinister with Cable and X-23, seeking his covert support for her mission against Apoth. As she leaves, Psylocke encourages Cable and Laura to recruit more allies, promising to transform them into warriors, much like her mentor did with her.
