Having seen the Bat-Signal, Boston Brand believes he has figured out who should be the bearer of the White Lantern Ring, Batman (Bruce Wayne). He leaps out of the Watchtower, followed by Dove who is not so sure Batman is the right choice. Boston traverses the roof tops until, hoping to find Batman, he instead finds Mister Freeze and his henchmen in the middle of a robbery. He confronts them and is soon joined by Batman. After Boston and Dove assist Batman in stopping the robbery, Deadman tells Batman that he is the only one of those who were returned to life to receive a White Lantern Ring and the Entity wants him to choose a bearer. Boston wants Batman to take it. Boston forces the White Lantern Ring to leave his hand and settle on Batman’s finger. However, the Entity, through Batman, tells Boston that the entire web of life is corrupted and it chose him because he was dead and separate from the life web. The Entity scolds Boston for forcing the White Lantern Ring on Batman, telling him he chose poorly. At that precise moment, one of Mister Freeze’s henchmen shoots Boston seemingly killing him. Boston observes memories of his life and death and realizes that he lived his life selfishly and never thought of others until he was literally forced to step into others’ shoes by possessing them. He learned to care about others and even solved his own murder. He was told that he would be allowed to move on if he did so, but had lingered until he was given a second chance and he now wants that second chance. The Entity replies that he must take the second chance. The Entity heals his wound and the White Lantern Ring returns to his finger. It then tells him that he will not find the chosen one by searching for him, because life is unexpected. If he lives his life, the chosen one will find him. Boston and Dove then embrace their growing feelings for one another and share a kiss. Meanwhile, Batman has slipped away and is looking on from a rooftop. Batman then communicates with someone about Maxwell Lord, who had used his powers to cause the entire world to forget him, thus revealing that his interaction with the Entity has caused him to remember.
