An unnamed tribe in a wintry land faces attack from a tribe of beast men. Chieftain Trog the One-Eyed battles them as tribeswoman, Attu prepares to give birth on a distant peak. She prays to the tribe's moon goddess, Lural, for support, and gives birth to a golden haired boy. When she returns to the tribe, Trog is furious. He beat the beast men, but lost several members of the tribe including his "own woman." He refuses to accept the "whelp" into the tribe. The sorcerer pleads the infant's case, suggesting his blonde hair resembles a great warrior named Kong in the tribe's history. Now seeing the infant as a threat, Trog banishes Attu and the son she names Kong. Kong, now a child, remains isolated. He learns about gathering and healing from Attu, and learns about hunting from spying on the tribe. When he tries to approach boys from the tribe, they lash out in fear of Trog, throwing stones. Similarly, when Attu tries gathering near the tribeswomen, she is run off with clubs. Frustrated with their struggle, Kong sneaks into the tribe's cave and steals some of the sacred fire kept there. On the heels of that success, he attempts to hunt alone. A beast man named Guart/ Gurat captures him, cuts him, and ties him up as bait for a "great cat." Rain allows Kong to escape his bonds. He tricks the pursing Guart into on of the tribe's pit traps. As Guart climbs out of the pit, Kong kills him with his makeshift spear. Kong tells Attu the story. She rushes Kong back to the tribe, hoping he'll now find acceptance, but Trog doesn't believe them. Kong runs back to recover the beast man's weapons as evidence and is captured by grieving beast men. Trog tells Attu if she pursues Kong, he'll kill her. She follows him anyway. Attu sneaks onto the beast men encampment at night. She attacks an unaware beast man and frees Kong. During their escape, Attu's leg is wounded. Kong leaves Attu hidden behind a tree to track down healing herbs. When he returns, he finds Attu mutilated and hung. Footprints show it was the tribe that killed her. Kong swears vengeance on Trog and curses the moon goddess Lural.
