Jack Wayne takes control of Legion's body and tracks Dani down in jail. He is unable to penetrate the bars, and before managing to find a way to kill her, Legion is knocked out by Cannonball and Sunspot. Legion quickly returns to consciousness, and Cannonball and Sunspot head out to fight him, with Cannonball deciding to leave Dani in her cell for her own safety, over her objections. Cannonball and Sunspot manage to defeat two of Legion's personalities, Sally and Hugh Davidson, before a childlike "good" personality takes control of Legion. He explains that there are hundreds, possibly thousands of personalities because Bishop used a knife made of "David-thought" and sent them to the No-Time, where the evil personalities enslaved some of the others, like him, who is now being forced to kill Dani. He creates a stone-construct in her cell which starts choking her, but it is destroyed by Magma just in time. Magik suggests entering Legion's mind by touching Karma in order to save her, while Magma, Cannonball, Sunspot and Dani try to stop Legion in order to bring him to Emma Frost. Cannonball tells Illyana not to kill any of Legion's personalities, since he could die if one of the personalities dies in his mind-scape, and if he dies so do Illyana and Karma. Magik threatens Jack Wayne with the soulsword, but he calls her bluff, saying he heard Cannonball forbid her from killing any of them. Magik proceeds to kill Jack Wayne and two other personalities.

The New Mutants battle Legion and try to keep him from killing Dani. Magik decides to take the battle straight to David and uses the portal opened by Karma to enter his mind and attack.
Sam is worried about his leadership but Scott tells him to take his team on vacation and get over it. Pixie is still angry at Illyana and is taking a vacation of her own. Meanwhile, General Ulysses and Dr. Noc fail to convince General Combest to pursue Illyana Rasputin, and decide to take independent action.
We see the experiences of General Ulysses's team in Limbo through a series of flashbacks. They were sent there to "weaponize" the Inferno babies, and were sealed in when Witchfire attacked the base and the children were reported to have died. In the present, General Combest confronts General Ulysses and Dr. Noc over their abduction of Pixie, with surprising results.
Illyana realizes Ulysses has taken Pixie and teleports the New Mutants (minus Warlock, who is sent to warn the X-Men) to Limbo where they will have more time before Ulysses enacts his plan. Magik gets the location of the base from Witchfire and the New Mutants invade. But General Ulysses and Dr. Noc are guarded by the Inferno mutants.
The New Mutants fight the now-grown Inferno babies whose survival and alliance with General Ulysses and Dr. Noc is explained in a flashback.
General Ulysses and Dr. Noc extract the bloodstone from Pixie's Soul Dagger with Magik's Soulsword while the Inferno mutants torture the rest of the New Mutants team. With the U. S. Air Force bearing down on them, they set out to return to Limbo and complete their plan.
Illyana brings Karma and Pixie (but not Face) back to X-Men to gather a raiding party to block General Ulysses' scheme, but it has already been put into action and Limbo's elder gods are free. However, before leaving, Illyana stabbed Karma with the Soulsword in order to execute the real plan she came back in time to put into motion.
Magik's plan for Legion is revealed in the showdown between the X-Men and the elder gods unleashed by General Ulysses. The General and his allies severely underestimate their level of control over those they have summoned. Illyana re-absorbs her bloodstones, and returns Pixie's to her. She tells Pixie that she hopes to at least act like a real girl now, and then goes to tell her older brother that "she's back". But Karma knows the truth.
