Rick Davis is assisting the San Francisco authorities in searching a merchant ship arriving from China in order to search it communist spies that might be trying to smuggle themselves into the United States. The ship's crew initially attack but then surrender when Davis and the authorities storm the ship. The captain and his crew act as though they thought Davis and his men were thieves, and appear to be helpful enough, but Rick is suspicious as the crew has weapons and attacked first. However a search of the ship finds that it is carrying nothing but mechanical dolls that can walk and sing. With a seemingly clean search, Rick and his men leave but decide to keep an eye on where the dolls are going. With Chinese-American agent Charlie Fong, he stakes out Chu Shen, the owner of a toy shop in the city. When the dolls arrive at Chu Shen's shop, Rick sends Charlie to do research on the man while he stakes the place out. Hours later, Chu Shen closes up his shop and leaves, unaware that Rick is following him. They soon arrive at the China Doll night club, a known communist meet up spot. While watching a performance, Rick is reunited with Charlie who warns him that the place is a communist joint when suddenly the lights go out. Charlie is knocked out and Rick Davis fights off his attackers, spotting Chu Shen slipping away behind a curtain in the darkness. Davis follows after him fighting off communist agents that try to stop him. Rick suddenly is blinded when the lights are turned back on and finds himself trapped in a room of mirrors reflecting a gun toting Chu Shen in them. Unsure where the real Chu Shen is amid the reflections, Rick quickly shoots his gun and then dives down when he hits a mirror. Slow to respond, Chu fires his gun just as Rick ducks to safety and gives himself away, Rick shoots him dead and goes back upstairs to find that the Secret Service is cleaning the place up. Rick and Charlie then return to Chu Shen's club and search the crates and find that one of the "dolls" is really the diminutive Chinese spy Su Ming Toy and take her into custody.
