A Voice gives the villain Humbug a new assignment - get the Atom and his scientific knowledge. Humbug is told to watch Dr Hyatt. At Ivy University, Dr Hyatt and Enrichetta study the dimensional workings of the Atom's powers, while Ray concentrates on impressing Enricha. Norm Brawler interrupts with news that they had a meeting with Warner Books but Ray is unconvinced that he wants to write another edition. The C.I.A. Agents and Humbug listen in. Humbug sends the agents on a wild goose chase, while he follows Norm and the Atom to Manhattan. Humbug seems to be everywhere -- cabbie, window-washer, and coffee-boy -- while they wait in the Warner Books office. Ray bursts forth from the telephone, and in the middle of negotiations, the room fills with gas. The Atom is fooled into enlarging to full size, and Humbug takes the opportunity to punch him. The battle spills into the hallway, where the Atom and Humbug play cat-and-mouse through the office partitions, sizing up each other's strength. The Atom lets loose, and punches Humbug through Warner's comic book studio. It seems like victory for the Atom, but Humbug's body shrivels with an electric discharge, which leaves nothing but his skin. He has tested the Atom and returns to consult with the Voice. At the Hoben & Loring legal firm, Paul Hoben is getting snappy with Jean Loring. He resents her continued interest in Ray Palmer and wishes he'd never fallen for her. In the basement, Paul retrieves his hidden Bio-Belt, and plans to level the playing field with Ray Palmer.
