The recovery of third-party encapsulation and grading expenditures when an asset is acquired at a discount below the physical cost of replacement grading fees, shipping, and insurance.
Johnny Bender, now calling himself Smiley, sits in a ruined building. A group of thugs tell him that the building is their territory and try to mug him. He takes out his wallet and shows them his collection of Joker photos, then pulls out his gun and threatens them with it. He then beats their leader senseless and tries to persuade the rest to switch from common crime to Joker-style psychopathy. Two days later, Izzy talks to a guidance counselor about her plans for the future and her spotty attendance record. Duke, waiting outside the school to meet her, ruminates on his failures to protect the people he cares about. The two teens hug and discuss his parents' condition, as well as what they've heard from the other Robins. Riko sees them from across the street, but before they notice her, she picks up on their romantic body language and ducks into a nearby convenience store, heartbroken. Inside, a customer is making racist remarks to the Arab cashier, so she throws a soda can at his head and kicks him in the groin. The cashier tells her to calm down. Elsewhere, Dax carries out a successful (though terrifying) test of his new grappling gun, while Dre, left alone at home for the night by his mom, watches a news report on Smiley's murder of his parents. Smiley himself, with the gang of Jokerz he has gathered, corner a middle-aged couple and their young son in an alley. As they brutally beat the father, Dre jumps down into the alley, wearing his new costume, and engages with them. Smiley pulls out his gun and insults Dre's mask. As he monologues, the boy bites his leg, giving Dre a chance to disarm him. Dre tells the kid that he "make[s] a great sidekick." Dre makes his getaway as the police arrive. Duke takes Izzy to visit his parents. Dax continues work on his grappling gun. Riko mopes. The Jokerz continue their rampage elsewhere.
