Steven has fallen into the waters beneath the Gotham Bridge and the heroes of the multiverse jump in to save him. Even though he is rescued, the fall has left Steven with multiple injuries and he can't be moved without worsening his condition. Brainiac offers to help Steven, but Wonder Woman refuses his help, especially because he is still infected by the unknown scientist's code. Batman attempts to find medical equipment from a broken ambulance, but finds nothing useful. Luckily, Reindog manifests a healing ray that brings Steven back to full health. Meanwhile, on the edge of the known universe, Big Barda, Forager and Mr. Miracle investigate the Source Wall to find any potential clues on whoever send the signal detected by the heroes of Earth. Suddenly, an energy beam pierces the Wall and reaches Earth and a message is written in the skies of Gotham: "Select your fighters or they will be chosen for you." The heroes continue their investigations at the Batcave. Avia, who originally detected the signal at her home, has been brought to the cave for protection and catches a broadcast from Lois Lane, who is reporting that mysterious drones have descended all over Gotham. Brainiac, still trying to purge his systems from the unidentified scientist's code, connects to the Batcomputer and inserts a message that gives Steven an idea on how to save their home. Avia still blames herself for this mess, but Superman replies that she actually gave the heroes a chance to fight for their survival by detecting Devoid's signal. Batman believes they can reprogram one of Devoid's drones in order to access the Imaginarium, Devoid's domain, and fight Devoid directly. Before they can do that, Avia's video game console suddenly attaches itself to her while Brainiac barely manages to free himself from the scientist's code. A mysterious entity made of pure energy appears before the assembled heroes, but Brainiac quickly disintegrates it. Brainiac's victory is short-lived, however, as Avia, possessed by the entity, punches through his chest. She is Devoid and she wants to finish her game.
