Reading this edition’s market

Compare the same cover, printing and grade before setting a bid. A raw guide or a higher-grade price does not establish a slab’s value. Include selling fees, shipping and the depth of completed-sale evidence when assessing an exit price.

The table includes 9 guide observations and 0 catalog references. These are reference values, not guaranteed sale proceeds.

A Shock to the System!

Teenager Hallie Takahama, like many children, lost her parents during the Onslaught crisis. Her situation worsened when she and her friends were abducted by the Rat Pack for horrific experiments. However, Hallie gained superpowers during these trials, enabling her to escape. She sought help from the Fantastic Four at Four Freedoms Plaza but instead encountered the Thunderbolts. Meteorite is observing with interest how Atlas, Mach-1, and Songbird immediately stepped up to help the distressed girl, demonstrating their increasing comfort in their roles as heroes. But Citizen V was not as skeptical as Meteorite.

Now, the Thunderbolts, joined by Hallie in a new costume designed by Techno, set off to Castle Doom, where she believes her friends to be held captive. Ignoring Citizen V’s orders, Hallie rushes ahead upon arrival. Though initially meeting little resistance, the team soon faces a group of monstrous creatures. Meteorite speculates that these beings were Hallie's unfortunate friends, victims of the same experiments she had escaped. Their suspicions are prompted when they encounter Arnim Zola, the mastermind behind the atrocities.

Meanwhile, Techno’s camera feed broadcasts the Thunderbolts' mission live to the public. The dramatic footage spurred Dallas Riordan, from the White House, to announce the government’s intention to grant the Thunderbolts the same security clearances as the Avengers and Fantastic Four.

At the castle, Zola’s experiments culminate in a single, massive amalgamated monster. Hallie recognizes her friends within the creature’s eyes and, in anguish, pleads for their humanity to prevail. In a final act of agency, the monster destroys itself to protect Hallie. With Zola defeated, Hallie insists he faces justice.

As the media arrives for a press conference, Meteorite persuades Citizen V to welcome Hallie, now calling herself Jolt, into the Thunderbolts. Although Meteorite presented this move as beneficial for the team’s image, she secretly viewed it as a strategic advantage for her own interests. | Writer1_1 = Kurt Busiek | Penciler1_1 = Mark Bagley | Inker1_1 = Vince Russell | Colorist1_1 = Joe Rosas | Letterer1_1 = Dave Lanphear | Editor1_1 = Tom Brevoort
