Reading this edition’s market

Compare the same cover, printing and grade before setting a bid. A raw guide or a higher-grade price does not establish a slab’s value. Include selling fees, shipping and the depth of completed-sale evidence when assessing an exit price.

The table includes 9 guide observations and 1 catalog references. These are reference values, not guaranteed sale proceeds.

With a Price on his Head

The Joker is engaged in another wave of killings and is being pursued by Batman, Robin, and Batgirl. A mammoth electronic billboard is airing live news on the pursuit as well as a press conference by wealthy philanthropist Douglas Reid, who surprises everyone by offering a $50 million bounty on Joker's life.

Batman finally captures Joker but locks him up in the Batcave, surmising that vast numbers of people will try to kill him and thus collect the bounty - proof arriving when Commissioner Gordon phones to convey just that, and to inform Batman of a riddle from The Riddler.

Batman and Robin track down Ridfler at an abandoned theater. There Riddler and his gang intend to take Robin as hostage in exchange for Joker, which of course fails. Riddler escapes, taunting Batman that it isn't over.

Joker meanwhile slips out of his bonds, overpowers Batgirl, and sets about exploring what he is unaware is Wayne Manor - and is promptly knocked out by the ever-vigilant Alfred, who ties him up in the Batcave with duct tape. He nonetheless taunts Batman as he searches for a possible Riddler hideout and the taunting flies Batman into a rage - but when Joker boasts he can play Batman like an instrument the Caped Crusader suddenly recognizes that Riddler had been dropping clues in front of him the entire time, thus easily finding and capturing him.

When Nightwing stops an effort by Clayface to collect the bounty Batman realizes the only way to stop the situation is by grabbing Douglas Reid and bringing him to the Batcave - and daring him to kill the Joker himself.
